The Estonian Cancer Society is dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles, preventing and detecting cancer early, and supporting cancer patients. Our mission is to raise awareness of cancer risk factors, collaborate with clinical partners in cancer screening programs, and provide psychosocial support to cancer patients and their families.
Each year in Estonia, approximately 9,000 people are diagnosed with cancer, and sadly about half of them die. However, many of these deaths could be prevented or, if detected early, treated successfully. Researchers and health professionals agree that around 30–40% of all cancer cases could be avoided by adopting healthier lifestyles. This means not smoking, eating a healthy diet, and engaging in regular physical activity. Since cancer detected in its early stages can often be treated effectively, we are committed to raising public awareness about healthier living, encouraging participation in cancer screenings, and paying attention to overall health and especially the early signs of cancer.
The Estonian Cancer Society’s mobile mammography bus and diagnostic units for skin and prostate cancer travel across Estonia, helping people prevent and detect cancer at an early stage.
